  • PACING GUIDE

  • Unit 1: Lesson 9 Activity 2 - Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO)

    • CTSO? CTSO! That stands for Career and Technical Student Organizations.

    • Hopefully you know that here at UCA, we have a chapter of FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), and HOSA Future Health Professionals (Health Occupation Students of America)!

    • For this assignment, you will be comparing FBLA with another CTSO of your choice. Please use THIS SPREADSHEET to complete your assignment.

    • Once you're done, submit it to your drop box for this portfolio. If you have created it in Google Docs, you can download it as a PDF or Excel doc and submit that. 

  • Unit 2: Lesson 9 Activity 2​ - Active Listening

    • In this lesson, you get to complete your Unit 2 Portfolio! You will practice active listening by watching a video about an educational topic that interests you. Make sure the video is at least 5 minutes!

    • Where might you get your video? Some ideas:

    • If you wish to research educational videos away from these specific sites, please get your Learning Coach's permission first.

    • After watching the video:

      • Write a 150- to 200-word summary of the presentation. Be sure to include the link to your presentation or the source for your video.

      • Use the given information from the presentation to write two follow-up questions for the presenter:

        • One question should prompt general information.

        • One question should prompt specific information.

      • Assess the speaker’s nonverbal communication methods. Answer these questions in complete sentences:

      • How do you interpret the speaker’s movements?

      • How did the speaker’s nonverbal communication impact the total communication process?​

  • Unit 3: Lesson 10 Activity 2​ - Customer Service and Phone Skills

    • ​For this assignment, you are going to practice resolving a customer complaint via phone. The assignment (read the next page) states to voice record your answer. If you don't have access to that type of technology, feel free to write it in script format using a word processor.

  • Unit 7: Multimedia Presentation

    • For this assignment, you will be creating a presentation. Generally, people use something like PowerPoint or Google Slides to start. What makes it "multimedia" is that you are going to make sure to insert images, clip art, shapes, WordArt, SmartArt, and sounds. 

    • The topic will be something of your choice. So, if you created a presentation for another class it is okay to use it here, though you will likely have to add the stuff that makes it "multimedia." 

    • Required Elements: 

      • Manipulate graphical elements, images, clip art, shapes, WordArt, and SmartArt

      • Edit video and audio content

SECOND SEMESTER

Unit 1: The Business Plan

  • If you would like a template for this assignment, it can be found HERE

Unit 2: The Risks in Business

  • In this Portfolio, you will be identifying five different risks that apply to your future business. I have created a template for this assignment to help make sure you identify all of the requirments for each risk: HERE IT IS!

Unit 3: Growing the Business with People

  • Please watch this SHORT SCREENCAST before starting this lesson. It will give you a couple of ideas for programs to use for your chart, as well as how to create it. You will be glad you did! 

Unit 4: The Business Plan

    • Are you ready to look at your BUSINESS PLAN, all neat and with all the information in one spot? 

    • In short, your business plan will be created using presentations software like PowerPoint or Google Slides. Please watch this this very short screencast! You will be glad you did. Plus, it's required!

Unit 5: Midterm

Unit 6: LOGO!

  • For this assignment, you get to evaluate logos for businesses similar to yours, and also design your own logo! Please watch this very short but required SCREENCAST, and then get to work!

Unit 7: Ethical Dilemmas

  • In this assignment, you will add another page to your website! It will address how you will handle ethical dilemmas in your business. If you have any questions, call/text/webmail/bookme or attend Office Hours/In n Out Office Hours and we will discuss! 

Unit 8: Business Idea

You are going to use PowerPoint or Google Slides for this assignment and create a promotional for your start-up business idea. As it states in the lesson, your requirements are:

Step 1: Create a Slide Presentation

· Create a new slide presentation or document.

Step 2: Develop Key Messages

· Determine the specific purpose of your promotion. Will it be used to attract new customers or retain existing ones? Is it a temporary promotion? If so, when does it end?

· Determine your key message and your call to action. What do you want the customer to do when they read the flyer?

· Consider other information that should be included, such as business contact information or operating hours, and add it to the flyer.

Step 3: Incorporate Branding

· Using the built-in graphics and design tools, add the colors and styles of your brand to the new slide or document.

· If you developed a logo in a previous unit, incorporate it into your brochure by copying or embedding a version of it into the slide or document.

Step 4: Check Your Work

· Your promotional flyer should have these components:

o  Logo or company identifier

o  An easy-to-understand message or call to customer action

o  Use of the brand colors and fonts

o  Any other information that the customer will need to take action

Unit 9: Banking - Checking and Savings

For this assignment, you will be learning about managing savings and checking accounts. This will include creating an account on a banking simulator, but will not require any of your actual banking information, so no worries! I look forward to seeing what you have learned!
